In the era of bobby socks and poodle skirts, the most popular teen idols were Frankie Avalon, Fabian Forte and Bobby Rydell. The teen heartthrobs from South Philly, known as the “Golden Boys,” will take the stage at the Mystic Showroom on Friday, May 29 at 8 p.m.
Frankie Avalon’s first song “DeDe Dinah” became a smash hit and his recording of “Venus” was one of the biggest selling hits of the era. His follow-up hits include “Bobby Sox to Stockings,” “Just Ask Your Heart” and “A Boy Without a Girl.”
Fabian Forte produced dozens of hit singles, eight albums, earned gold records for “Turn Me Loose” and the million-selling single, “Tiger”. He enjoyed success with hits “Hound Dog Man,” “The Fabulous Fabian” and “I’m A Man.”
Making his debut on the “Red Skelton Show” and “American Bandstand,” Bobby Rydell rose to the top of the charts with “Volare,” “Wild One” and “We Got Love.” His recording career earned him 34 Top 40 records with hits such as “Swinging’ School,” “Kissin’ Time” and “Forget Him.”
