Let your creative side shine at Battle of the Brushes, a mural design competition and fundraiser hosted by Main Street Shakopee on Saturday, March 21 at 338 1st Ave East in downtown Shakopee. Top mural designs, art and ideas generated at this event will be incorporated into a mural to be painted at the Holmes Street tunnel this coming summer.
From 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM four teams will be painting eight-foot wall murals in a head-to-head mural design competition! Stop by during the Battle to enjoy live painting, good music and refreshments. Bring cash to vote for your favorite mural throughout the day. Pick up a brush and paint your favorite Shakopee landmarks, stories, and history on a section of the community wall area. If you’re feeling more abstract, sling some color on the paint-splatter wall instead!
See the completed murals, vote for your favorite and enjoy local art at the Pop-Up Gallery from 4:00 - 6:00 PM. A pop-up is a temporary space, often a transformation of a bleak or vacant space to a bright, interesting and must-go-to spot. 338 1st Ave East will undergo a complete renovation but before the transformation begins we are utilizing the space as a community canvas and local gallery! Visitors will also get a sneak-peak at the future plans for 338 and other new businesses in the Main Street Shakopee district.
A program of the Shakopee Chamber and Visitor’s Bureau, Main Street Shakopee is a collaborative community-wide effort to revitalize Shakopee’s historic downtown and Highway 101 business district.
